These were my favourite photos that I took during my Brand shoot. I decided to go with the first image as I felt that This went the best with the Illamasqua brand look.

'Narcotic' Brand Storyboard
For my story board, I focused on my make-up and hair styles, poses and lighting. I like the idea of using a black back round to give the shoot a dark feel, quite similar to a lot of Illamasqua's adverts.
For my make-up, I really like the idea of doing the 'doll eye' look for the eyes and would like for most of the focus to be on the eyes, advertising fake eyelashes. I think for the hair, I'm going to a messy look, as I want my model to look a bit wild and unkempt.
I also like the idea of having a pop of bright colour, I might do this for the nails, in bright colours but halved with two different colour to represent pills. I'm also thinking about the idea of using some very bright eye shadow to go with the lashes, possibly a bright pink.

'Narcotic' Brand Mood Boards
For my first draft, I originally liked the idea of using quite dark and grungy colours and went for the typical idea of what we associate with narcotics and drugs. I liked the idea of lots of black and grey and basing my make-up looks around that kind of colour scheme.
Inspirational Word: Narcotic
The inspirational word that I was set for this task was 'Narcotic'. When I think of the word narcotic, the first thing that comes to my mind are drugs and this is a theme that I want to consider when creating my mood board and doing my editorial shoot.
The definition of 'Narcotic' in the Oxford Dictionary is 'An addictive drug affecting mood or behaviour, especially an illegal one' or 'A drug which induces drowsiness, stupor, or insensibility, and relieves pain'.
I started thinking about different ways this could work, for example, the idea of using psychedelic and bright or 'trippy' colours, the addiction and 'grungy' side of it and possibly the gang side of it.
I started thinking about possible ideas and images to use and how drugs have been featured in music, films and media. I found some ads from labels that I liked that were quite similar to the kind of ideas I was having.
This first image was used for an advert for Yves Saint Lauren clothing. Both Courtney Love and Marilyn Manson are quite edgy characters in the media and have both openly talk about their drug addictions and there seems to be quite a lot of fascination and interest in figures like this. The second was used for the same campaign, but just shows Courtney on her own, the make-up and style is quite messy, which is often very unusual for high end labels.
Another example where this has been done was with Kate Moss and the 'Dior Addict' advert and below wit the Amy Winehouse shoot.
It seems that this is quite a popular image to go for, possibly because of the 'bad girl' or 'bad boy' image that people respond to.
I love the bright colours in these and would be really interested to see how I could create a look influenced by this. These are some images I found that I liked the look of:
When thinking about other make-up idea. I really like the idea of creating a 'doll-eyed' look. This is mainly due to the reaction that some people have when on drugs and how their eye can appear bigger. This could be done through eyelashes, and I found some example of looks I would like to try:

Another quite iconic image is this one of the character Mia, played by Uma Thurman, in the movie 'Pulp Fiction'. In the film, directed by Quentin Tarantino, Mia is a drug addict married to a well known drug dealer and takes an overdose in the film. The second image is a still from this point in the film, which has become incredibly popular and iconic.
I also looked into the idea of using Bright and psychedelic colours. For example the colour of some pills, and possibly basing a look around those kinds of colours. I found some images that could inspire a look like this and similar ideas that have been done with make-up.

I also found other images that appear to have been inspired by the idea of trips and hallucinations:

Looking into the idea of gangs was also something I wanted to research when creating the mood board. I thought about the idea of Cholas and other female gang members:

Feedback Evaluation
Write an evaluation of the feedback provided for the last project - where do you think you can improve on your work and /or the management of the work for this project.
"Well, I have to say I think your photographs are beautiful. You've really brought out the best in your models, they look relaxed, at ease with themselves, the lighting is appropriate, the compositions are interesting and engaging. From a technical point of view I think you could've got a tiny bit more contrast out of the monochrome images and your central colour image isn't as strong as the others. I like how you've brought out the warmth in post production, I think either image would've worked well as colour or monochrome which is a great thing, if you can keep up this standard of photography, you will leave here with a very professional portfolio of work to show to people. Tech blog is detailed, although I would've liked to have seen a little bit more independent research into photographers and test images/shots from our lessons. Its important that you include images that didn't work, so you can remember what not to do next time!"
I definitely agree that I should have done more test shoots before my final shoot. I need to work on my time management to make sure that I get as much practice in as I can for this project. I also think I should've researched more, again making sure that I make enough time to get in as much detail as I would like to my blog.
I was really happy with the way the images came out, I initially found it quite difficult because i do not have a lot of experience with photography but was pleased with the outcome. Next time I would like to try out different lighting techniques as i don't feel like I really experimented with them enough.

Analysis of Beauty Advertisement
I decided to analyse this advert from Mac Cosmetics. Dita Von Tease is very well known for being very glamorous and has quite a big fan base especially when it comes to her make-up and fashion sense. She collaborated with Mac, bringing out a red lipstick at the same time she released her book, named 'Your Beauty Mark'.
The image is very striking, including both a 'girly' or 'classy' look with the flowers and diamond earrings but also quite edgy with the glove and the colour of her hair and smokey eyes. This creates quite an edgy contrast. She also appears to be quite powerful and in charge due to the way she is posed and appears very sultry.
Dita has quite an edgy and glamorous look anyway and is famous for being a Burlesque performer, her style appears to be very influenced by the fashion and make-up from the 1950's.
